Jingdezhen Porcelain-Song Dynasty/Global Trade 2

Jingdezhen--as the one of the world’s first industrial cities, and its porcelain was chased madly by foreigners. There must be a complex background besides it’s    uniquely positioned to the natural abundant resources.

First of all, due to the constant wars in Northern Song Dynasty, it caused a huge migration of population coming to Southern China where was under the govern of Southern Song Dynasty, which included many porcelain makers with sophisticated techniques. Hence, the development of porcelain in Southern Song Dynasty benefited from it as well as Jingdezhen porcelain.

Second of all, the ruler of Southern Song Dynasty was developing economy in a highly all-around way. So, it was speedily boosting. And porcelain was one of the popular goods nationally and internationally, there is no doubt that was being produced massively.

Last but not least, in order to enlarge tax sources, the development of Sea trade was growing steadily and vastly while the land trade was blocking by foreign forces such as Liao and Mongolia. The imperial court established different ports (called Shibosi) which were responsible for trading with different countries. Porcelain as an mainly product and surplus was delivered to those foreign countries to make a big profit to the royal court.
