Jingdezhen Porcelain - Global Trade/Yuan Dynasty

 

Some people say, the most exquisite Yuan Qinghua are not in China but in abroad. According to the study, Topkapi Palace in Turkey where exhibits over 10,000 pieces of Chinese porcelain including about 40 Yuan dynasty Qinghua. And those are considered the largest and finest collections.

We are talking about one country here. However, during 1341 to 1368, which was the ruling time of the last Yuan emperor of Zhizheng, in accordance with 《dao yi zhi luv》by wang dayuan that there had been around 50 foreign countries and areas trading with Yuan dynasty. Porcelain was one of the main export commodities. The emphasis of evolving global trade was even surpassing Song dynasty which also paid high attention to it.

Behind this, it was the Mongolian troops who showed valor and skill on the battlefield. They kept fighting and the territory was continuously expanding, which eventually spanned across Europe and Asia, which built the grounds for a broad and extensive market for commercial and handicraft industry.

Export Yuan qinghua was deeply loved by foreigners, especially the Muslin countries. They were constantly sending orders to China to made Blue and white porcelain. At that time, based on their preferences, the qinghua wares usually were large with dense patterns in order to coincide the custom and religious beliefs with functionalities. Apart from this, Yuan Qinghua achieved acceptance by the royalties of Ottoman Empire as well, as the symbol of fashion and luxury.
