Song porcelain definitely could stick out the minimalism of Song Dynasty through out its material, decorative design and form. At the first place, we will start with the unique materials only can be found in Jingdezhen which are Kaolin and the translucent bluish white glaze. Porcelain made of Kaolin has strong plasticity and malleability, which leads to the creation of carving skill called “Ban Dao Ni” ( flat blade but half carving, it is a technique used to carve flowers and patterns constituted of lines on the partly dry and partly wet of green-wares with a blade of some sort ). The second feature of Song porcelain is the technique particularly developed by Song craftsman in Jingdezhen and it only can be applied to the greenware made of Kaolin and clearly revealed under the translucent bluish and white glaze. Therefore, without any one of it, it can’t compose to the speciality of Song porcelain. Last but not least, the overall form enhanced the simplicity of Song porcelain with its perfect proportions and the whole body’s well balance.
