Jingdezhen Porcelain - in Yuan Dynasty (2)

The year before the national unity, the sovereign of Mongol set up a “Fuliang Porcelain Bureau” in Jingdezhen , which was responsible for supervising the high standards of porcelain production and paying tribute to the Royalty.

Here is the word: “You can always trust the motherland”; In the respect of porcelain industry, the word could go “ You can always trust Jingdezhen”. It’s mainly because Yuan dynasty created and established the royal status of Jingdezhen porcelain production at home and overseas.

Yuan Dynasty brought Jingdezhen porcelain into a brand new times by inventing the 4 new types of porcelain, which were Blue and White ( Qinghua), Copper red, Blue glaze and Egg white glaze.

Aside from these major creations, we also can discover the notable change and advancement in the perspective of forms, patterns and so on.

There were several reasons summarized to explicate. Firstly, the newly found Kaolin was mixed with the porcelain stone becoming the compound raw material which could be fired at the maturing temperature at 1,300 Celsius whereby the hardness and rigidity of porcelain body improved. Besides, due to the turbulence of the war between the Song people and Yuan Mongolians, a great influx of porcelain artisans with the painting skill from northern China came to Jingdezhen. Lastly, except the daily consumption and use of the civilians, the need for porcelain supply in overseas trade stimulated the Yuan porcelain as well.
